Program   Objectives

Students will systemically learn knowledge and techniques required for biological studies, which would enable them to perform researches in basic science or applied researches of biology. They will also be qualified for teaching and biology-related management.

Requirements of Research Ability and Other Aspects

Scientific research ability

Students should be familiar with the history, current status and trends in the field of Biology and his/her specialized fields. They should master basic experimental techniques and research approaches, be acquainted with technologies used in his/her field, be able to perform researches independently and have the expertise and skills to explore in his/her specialized field. They should also have the learning capacity to grasp knowledge and techniques in interdisciplinary fields.

Other aspects

Besides having the expertise, skills and learning capacity required for performing researches in their fields, students should also learn to make precise and truthful interpretations to their data and stick to academic norms. They should have  good scientific writing skills and be able to communicate with others. And besides being able to work independently, they should also be a good team worker.

Attend research seminars and take notes. 120 seminars are required for Ph.D. candidates, and 80 seminars for master candidates.

Students are required to take notes, which would be evaluated by the school before thesis evaluation.

Ph.D. candidates should have experience in attending academic communication or academic conferences.

Thesis

Basic requirements for thesis (e.g., academic quality of the thesis):

A thesis dissertation should include a rational research proposal, a logical experiment design, a complete set of original data, reliable data analysis and careful interpretations, and clear final conclusions. Thesis should be clearly written and the discovery should be original. Thesis defense should be carried out before ending of the final year at school. To receive a master degree, students should submit at least one paper (including to-be-published paper). Application for Ph.D. degree should refer to related regulations in the school.
